destination, and learned some priceless tips from the locals. Here's

In
my previous blog post,
I wrote about some of the more palatable foods that I had come across
in my travels – Food which are deemed acceptable to the
general public and more widely-known... Together with videos and tips
on the featured food and destination. In this blog post however, I'll
be showing you some of the lesser-known, utterly interesting
encounters...

The baby scorpion tasted like potato chips... And tasted exactly like the deep fried mealworm (a kind of larvae) which I tried while in Arizona, US... I better try a couple more insects before I conclude that all fried insects taste like, umm... Potato Chips
As for the Starfish.... It was like biting into a thick slab of uneven cracker. Tasteless, apart from the salt sprinkled on it.... which makes me wonder what's the point of eating it. They're better off decorating the coast and the bottom of the sea.
Next, barbecued silk worm...
Oh just look at those chubby silk worms... with its gooey guts oozing out....
Yep, it did take some guts, on my part to sink my teeth into those chubby things.
After biting through the crusty outer layer, my teeth sank into a soft, chewy mushy goo... It tasted stale... unfortunately...

Ever wondered how fried frog tastes like?
Head to Kuala Lumpur's famous food street -- Jalan Alor to give it a try!
Here's a video we filmed on the process of frying a frog. Although it's presented in Mandarin, you can still get a picture of how it's done. I've also included some behind-the-scenes commentary by our cameraman (in English) :)

I'll tell you what it tastes like... You're not going to be too impressed with what I'm about to say... It tastes like -- Chicken... Well, to be exact --- Kentucky Fried Chicken --- Except, the meat is much smoother.. So smooth it slides about in the mouth.
"Finger lickin' good" ...... Wait, I mean - "So good"...
Qingdao, China
Look closely... Have you any idea what these are??At a glance, they look like baby rats.... Next thing that came to mind were premature baby Platypuses......
These are actually 'Sea intestines' 海肠, or as my friend would rather call them - 'Sea dicks'... Since they're rather phallic looking. Locals say they're meant to be eaten raw... Not sure I can stomach that creature's gentle wiggle down my throat...
I posted the next photo on Facebook and a few of my friends thought it was, erm....

Well, it is actually something very refreshing to have on a hot summer's day...
In Qingdao, they serve Beer in plastic bags, and people would drink it with a straw :)

Hainan Island, China
Those beautifully striped things on the plate sure decorate the dish...!
It has a rubbery texture. An earthy/sandy aftertaste, with a hint of seawater to it... As though you've had a mouthful of sand from the shore prior...
So what is that? It is a common dish on Hainan Island. Those striped things are from the sea... It's a kind of worm... They are Sandworms 沙虫....
Hmmm... Now it's probably better they remain on the plate... :)

When in the grasslands, there's bound to be a lot of meat...Sheep head, and every other part of the animal...

Guangzhou, China
Guangzhou - A city so particular about food that they can make anything funky taste good! They are masters at it.I never thought I'd down a bowl of pig's heart & tongue soup...!
